Burnbrae Farms' Solar Powered Farm is nominated for the London Chamber of Commerce Environment Leadership Award

We are honoured to be recognized as a finalist in the Environmental Leadership category for the 2020 London Chamber of Commerce, Business Achievement Awards. This honour is in recognition of our new solar powered farm in Oxford County as well as conservation initiatives realized at our grading facilities in Strathroy, Ontario. As the largest solar-powered egg laying farm in Canada, Burnbrae Farms’ new solar facility is part of the family-owned and operated company’s mission to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while increasing efficiencies in energy and water use.

Known for our innovation and leadership in supporting local, national, and global communities, this award nomination demonstrates that increasing operational productivity can be done in a way that minimizes the impact that a corporation has on the environment.

Being acknowledged for our activities in sustainability is not new for Burnbrae Farms. In 2017, their Mississauga and Strathroy plants were awarded Atlantic Packaging Products environmental award for their use of 100% recycled boxes.

Originally started as a family farm in the late 1800s, today we employ more than 1,400 people across Canada at 11 locations. The secret to our growth and success is no secret at all.

In a world that continues to progress through connectivity, the Oxford County farm is distinct in that it operates off the grid with solar panels on the roof of three of its barns. To ensure the protection and safety of the hens, the farm is equipped with battery storage that stores energy for use overnight or during extended cloudy periods as well as a backup generator.
