Easter Egg Decorating with Jenny Casson
The fondest memories I have of Easter celebrations are both the endless varieties of chocolate available and the creative activities we always ended up doing as kids. Naturally, as a child with a constant hankering for sweets (that has not gone away), Easter festivities were never a hard sell for my parents. That being said, Easter is never Easter without some DIY arts and crafts. Decorating Easter eggs was something we always did with mom, followed by an egg scavenger hunt (rain or shine or snow) hidden by the Easter bunny (aided by my dad, of course!).

Here’s what you need to know about preparing eggs in the microwave.
The Delicious Goodness of Egg Yolks
As nutrition myths go, this one is still pretty pervasive: When eating eggs, it’s healthiest to toss the yolks and eat only the egg whites. Today’s blog post will finally put that myth to rest and present the top reasons why egg yolks should remain in your recipes and on your plate. Most people wrongly assume that egg whites contain all of the protein in the egg, and may opt for an ‘egg-white only’ omelette. Interesting fact: yolks actually contribute just under half of the protein in a whole egg. One egg has six grams of protein, with roughly 60 percent in the white, and 40 percent in the yolk. Toss the yolk, and you’re tossing away protein too.
Eggs – A Nutrient Powerhouse
At breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack time, I love adding eggs to my menu because they are delicious and versatile. But there’s one more big bonus – eggs are filled with a variety of nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, protein and antioxidants which contribute to overall health. So, today I’ll share why I consider eggs to be a nutrient powerhouse based on the abundance of nutrients that are packed into this amazing food.

2022 Eggs for Breakfast Trends
Since the pandemic began two years ago, cooking from home has, unsurprisingly, skyrocketed and is expected to continue. In a recent Deloitte study, 66% of Canadians are cooking more from home (even more for gen x). And, since many people are working from home, they have more time for breakfast and for experimenting in the kitchen. Media coverage, tweets and tiktok hashtags about eggs have all increased this past year with innovative dishes such as pesto eggs, egg sandwiches and even breakfast charcuterie boards. An Omnibus 2020 study, found that a key driver for egg consumption growth is Canadian’s interest in health and nutrition. This desire for healthy and nutritious foods at breakfast aligns perfectly with eggs – they are a nutritional powerhouse and an affordable source of protein.
A Protein Packed Picnic
More often than not (or in my case, always), these outdoor adventures require food and a solid break. What better way to make the most out of your outdoor excursion than to bring a picnic! It does not have to be a lot, just enough of what you need to give you an energy boost to make it back! When I pack my picnics, I always bring a mix of things I know my body will need and things I know my taste buds will want. Thankfully, hard-boiled eggs are a protein rich snack that both my body and my taste buds will equally desire!
Mama Casson: Queen of the Crustless Quiche
My mom’s crustless asparagus and ham gruyere quiche is so darn good we have it Christmas morning! It goes along perfectly with our salmon lox and mimosas! How she makes it so that the quiche can be cut in perfect pie slices (and hold its shape) is a mystery to me! Held together through the strength of love, I guess! Adding ketchup or any other condiment would be an insult. Perfect on its own, and unlikely to yield leftovers, this 6-egg dish is my all-time favourite.
A Post-Holiday Protein Packed Recovery
First things first, getting back into a healthy diet. When you are busy or on the go, you need your protein. And a long day requires a lot of energy and trying to find the perfect source to give you that boost can be a struggle. Busy lifestyles can make getting your nutrient requirements quite difficult. Grabbing last minute snacks and drinks can become a bad habit that doesn’t always give you what you need, when you need it. Nutrition should never suffer due to lack of convenience! It is 2022, there is no excuse to compromise when there are so many healthy options that are ready in a pinch! If you are looking for an easy and delicious warm snack to keep you fueled for hours, EGG Bites! are a great solution.
New Meta-Analysis Findings: Eggs are Beneficial for Heart Health
Working in the egg industry is always an adventure – especially when it comes to the science! Researchers around the world are constantly conducting studies on diet and nutrition, and eggs are often in the spotlight. It’s been many years since the worry of eggs and cholesterol was in the news, and the most recent studies on eggs as part of a balanced diet have been wholly positive. That theme continues with this new egg-related study that was published in the American Journal of Medicine in January, 2021.
